This document was prepared by the AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration and is intended to offer guidance on the analysis of steel girder bridges. There are numerous methods available to analyze any given steel girder bridge, which can differ in level of sophistication and required effort and produce varied levels of analysis data to be used in the design process. Designers need to know both the strengths and limitations of any given method in order to assess which of these methods may be appropriate in a given situation, to use that method properly, and thus to achieve a functional, efficient design.
