Many of the tests for impurities require comparison of the color or the turbidity produced under specified conditions by an impurity ion with the color or the turbidity produced under similar conditions by a known amount of the impurity. Three types of solutions are used to determine the amounts of impurities in reagent chemicals: blank, standard, and control.
