Rhenium (Re) is the third element in Group VIIB in the periodic table. It has an atomic number of 75, an atomic weight of 186.21, and valences of 1 through 7, with 7 being the most stable. The average abundance of Re in the earth’s crust is 7 ppm, and in groundwaters it is <0.1 mg/L. Rhenium is found in columbite, tantalite, and wolframite, as well as in molybdenum ore concentrates.
