Rappaport-Vassiliadis medium and tetrathionate broth areselective enrichment media that allow resuscitated Salmonella to multiply to discernible levels in the presence of competingmicrofl ora. The incubated media are streaked onto bismuthsulfi te, Hektoen enteric, and xylose lysine desoxycholate agarplates where, during incubation, discrete Salmonella coloniesare formed. Colony growth is identifi ed as Salmonella withbiochemical and serological testing.
