Tributyltin (TBT) is both a potent biocide and an endocrine disruptor. Its primary uses have been as an antifouling agent in marine paint, household cleaning solutions, and cooling systems, and as a stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. TBT has been detected in a variety of matrices, including wastewater, marine waters, shellfish tissues, and sediments.
