Organophosphorus and Organochlorine Pesticide Residues from Edible Oils Using Multiple Solid Phase Extraction Cartridges

2017

665.0288 AOCS 7th ed. 2017-2019 rev. Ref.

DEFINITION This method is a practical and effective procedure for the separation of trace levels of pesticides from edible oils in preparation for analysis by gas chromatography. The method combines a reverse-phase system and a normal-phase solid-phase extraction (SPE) cleanup system for the determination of organophosphate (OP) and organochlorine (OC) pesticide residues in olive oil and sunflower oil. Partitioning of the OP and OC pesticides is effected using disposable mini-columns of a macroporous Kieselguhr-type material (Extrelut NT) (References, 1,2). SCOPE This procedure is applicable to olive oil, sunflower oil, and other vegetable oils, and to butterfat and similar fats.
