This method determines the color of crude, raw, once refined, refined and bleached (RB) or refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) oils, and washed-dried filtered and deodorized tallow, providing that the oils are free of turbidity (free of particulates and moisture) in the test sample. The automated method gives results in the AOCS-Tintometer Color (Wesson method) or the Lovibond Color Scales. Applicable to crude, raw (unheated), and refined animal and vegetable fats and oils. If the samples contain particles, they must be removed via simple filtration. If the samples are wet and turbid, the samples must be dried prior to analysis.
