The method is used by sugar cane mills and may be used for cane payment. The method is used to determine the polarimetric sucrose content, the dissolved solids content and the fibre content of prepared cane. It is also suitable for determining these components in bagasse. For polarimetric sucrose contents in the range of 10 °Z to 15 °Z, the absolute difference between two results under repeatability conditions should not exceed 0.4 °Z, the absolute difference between two results under reproducibility conditions should not exceed 0.5 °Z. For refractometric dry substance contents in the range of (13 to 17) g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results under repeatability conditions should not exceed 0.5 g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results under reproducibility conditions should not exceed 0.7 g/100 g.
