Unsaponifiable matter is determined gravimetrically after saponification of the sample with KOH in ethanol and liquid-liquid extraction. Applicable to normal animal and vegetable fats and oils. This method is not suitable for fats and oils containing an excessive amount of unsaponifiable matter, such as marine oils. This method does not apply to feed-grade fats.
