This method determines soluble mineral matter as percent of the total mass of the test sample. Soluble mineral matter represents mineral matter combined with fatty acids in the form of soaps in solution in the fat or oil. These are usually present in the form of lime soaps although phosphates or iron may be present. Applicable to all normal animal fats and greases.
