2017

3

665.0288 AOCS 7th ed. 2017-2019 rev. Ref.

The total residual hexane content in extracted meals is the quantity of volatile hydrocarbons desorbed by heating the sample at 110 °C with water in a closed vessel and determining hydrocarbons in the headspace by gas chromatography. This method is applicable to the determination of the total amount of volatile hydrocarbons, expressed in terms of hexane, remaining in oilseed residues after extraction of the seed with hydrocarbon-based solvents. This method is equivalent to International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Standard Method 1.171 (References, 1 and 2).
